SUMNER INCLUSION PROJECT (SIP) CRESTWOOD ELEMENTARY
1999 through 2001

SIP ACTIVITIES
- Implemented eight early intervention literacy programs for 1st and 2nd grade students.
- Regularly scheduled meetings with Core SIP Team Members.
- Increased staff on SIP team.
- Targeted specific students with special needs.
- Pre- and Post-testing for targeted students.
- Developed individual plans for targeted SIP students (team approach).
- lnservice training for certified and classified staff (inclusion practices, reading & writing strategies, behavior and organizational skills strategies).
- Collaborative planning with certificated and classified staff.
- Literature review and discussion related to classroom modifications and accommodations.
- Attended classes related to serving students with special needs (inclusion practices, Read-Well training, academic development).
- Purchased instructional material to support the inclusion of students in the general education classroom.

IMPACT ON STUDENTS
- All students showed gains according to the pre- and post- test data. The majority of students showed significant gains.
- Increase in reading scores according to Woodcock-Johnson, reading fluency and running records.
- Overall student improvement on the WASL, STAR and DRP.
- Two students were exited from special education reading program and one exited from special education (99-00 school year).
- Overall tone of building is one of "All students are our students".
