In this Issue In this quarter's Journal, you will find thoughtful and practical articles on a wide array of topics. Beginning with reflections by Jim Botkin on his book, No Limits to Learning and his inspiring views on wisdom, we then take you into the classroom with dedicated and visionary educators. Following articles focus on early childhood, a unique university program, adult education, multicultural education, international programs, a fascinating study of chess and academic achievement, and finally a number of new approaches to using technology in education and a comprehensive report on new school environments. We try to include in each issue of the Journal topics that will be of interest and value the great diversity of people who visit our website, and hope you will find these articles useful. Please let us hear from you as an active member of our electronic learning community.

Digital Blackboard Foundation is thrilled to recognize six Washington state educators as 2000-01 Innovation in Teaching Award and Innovation Fellowship recipients. Teachers are honored for their innovative uses of technology to teach math or science. Spread the word about our Innovation in Teaching program to teachers you know who are using technology creatively to teach math or science content. Applications will be available in September.

New Technology Partnerships Grants are available from the Digital Blackboard Foundation: Next Deadline: May 14, 2001. Report: Instruction and Achievement in Chicago Elementary Schools
"The study reported here explored the link between different forms of instruction and learning in Chicago elementary schools. This report presents clear and consistent evidence that in Chicago's elementary schools the instructional approach teachers use influences how much students learn in reading and mathematics." This report is posted on the Consortium on Chicago Schools Research website.
